Step by Step: ConfigMgr 2012 Primary Site Install


ConfigMgr 2012 Primary Site Install (Stand-alone)

PreRequisites

·         Windows Server 2008 R2
o   Ensure the Computer Account is a member of the Local Administrators group
·         SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6
o   Ensure Named Pipes are enabled on the Database

Active Directory Setup

·         Create an AD group called SCCM Site Servers
·         Add the SCCM Server to the SCCM Site Servers Group

·         Give SCCM Site Servers Full control over the System\Systems Management Folder in the ADUC
o   If the Folder does not exist then give Full Control to your SCCM Server Computer account to the System Folder and then after the install go back to Step 3

Install dotNet 3.5 Feature

  • Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  • Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
·         Click Features
·         Click Add Features
o   Select .Net Framework 3.5.1 Features
§  Click Add Required Role Services
§  Click Next
§  Click Next
§  Click Next
§  Click Install
§  Click Close

Install Remote Differential Compression Feature 

  • Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  • Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Server Manager.
·         Click Features
·         Click  Add Features
o   Select Remote Differential Compression
o   Click Next
o   Click Install
o   Click Close

WSUS 3.0 SP2

  • Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  • Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
  • In the right side pane of the Server Manager window, if Windows Server Update Services is not listed in the Roles Summary section, click Add Roles.
    • Before You Begin page
      • Click Next.
    • Select Server Roles page,
      • Select Windows Server Update Services.
        • Click Add Required Role Services
        • Click Next.
    • Web Server (IIS) page
      • Click Next
      • Click Next
    • Windows Server Update Services page
      • Click Next
    • Confirm Installation Selections page
      • Click Install.
    • Setup Wizard
      • Click Next
    • License Agreement
      • Click I accept the terms of the License agreement
      • Click Next
    • Select an Update Source
      • Check Store updates Locally
        • Specify a location
      • Click Next
    • Database Options
      • Select Use an existing database server on this computer
      • Click Next
    • Connecting to SQL Server Instance
      • Click Next
    • Web Site Selection
      • Select Create a Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 Web site
      • Click Next
    • Ready to Install Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2
      • Click Next
    • Click Finish
  • Windows Server Update Services Configuration Wizard
    • Click Cancel

Install BITS Feature

  • Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  • Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Server Manager.
·         Click Features
·         Click  Add Features
o   Select Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
§  Click Add Required Role Services
§  Click Next
§  Click Next
§  Click Next
§  Click Install
§  Click Close

Enable Web Server (IIS) Role Services

  • Log on to the server on which you plan to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  • Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Server Manager.
·         Click Roles
·         Click Web Server (IIS)
·         Click Add Role Services
o   Select IIS 6 WMI Compatibility
o   Click Next
o   Click Install
o   Click Close

ConfigMgr 2012 Install Steps

·         Start System Center Configuration Manager Installer
o   Before you Begin:
§  Click Next
o   Getting Started:
§  Select Install a Configuration Manager primary site
§  Uncheck Use typical installation options for a stand-alone primary site
§  Click Next
o   Product Key:
§  Enter the product key
§  Click Next
o   Microsoft Software License Terms:
§  Check “I accept these license terms.
§  Click Next
o   Prerequisite Licenses
§  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express
·         Check “I accept these License Terms
§  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client
·         Check “I accept these License Terms
§  Microsoft Silverlight 4
·         Check “I accept these License Terms
§  Click Next
o   Prerequisite Downloads
§  Select the option here that suites your environment
§  Click Next
o   Server Language Selection
§  Select any languages needed for the console or reports
§  Click Next
o   Client Language Selection
§  Select any client languages that meet the display language on the client machine.
§  Click Next
o   Site and Installation Settings
§  Select a Unique Site Code
§  Specify a Site Name (Description)
§  Set an Installation Folder
§  Select Install the Configuration Manager console
§  Click Next
o   Primary Site Installation
§  Install the primary site as a stand-alone site
§  Click Next
§  Click Yes to the Error about not being able to join to a hierarchy
o   Database Information
§  Validate the information is correct and change if need be
§  Click Next
o   SMS Provider Settings
§  Validate the information is correct and change if need be
§  Click Next
o   Client Computer Communication Settings
§  Select the appropriate communication settings based on your organization
·         We are selecting Configure the communication method on each site system role and Checking Clients will use HTTPS when they have a valid PKI certificate and HTTPS-enabled site roles are available
§  Click Next
o   Site System Roles
§  Check Install a management point
·         Select the appropriate Client Connection
§  Check Install a distribution point
·         Select the appropriate Client Connection
§  Click Next
o   Customer Experience Improvement Program Configuration
§  Select which option is best for your organization
§  Click Next
o   Settings Summary
§  Validate the information provided is correct
§  Click Next
o   Prerequisite Check
§  Ensure there are no failures and check every warning
§  Click Install
